Automotive Window Tinting

What is VLT – Visible Light Transmission?

More % = lighter tint so 20% VLT (Dark smoke) will be darker than 35% VLT (Medium smoke) but lighter than limo tint which is 5% VLT.

When can you open or clean the windows?

Windows can usually be opened and cleaned inside after 2-3 days, but in some cases it might take longer. If your car has frameless windows (like on some coupes and convertibles), be extra careful—opening them too soon can affect the tint before it fully sets. To be safe, follow our recommended wait time for the best results.

Is window tinting legal on front and rear windows in Ireland?

In Ireland, front side windows must allow at least 65% VLT and the windscreen 70% VLT. Rear windows can be tinted without restriction. Non-compliance may result in fines or NCT failure.

Are sun strips on windshields legal?

Sun strips are generally allowed as long as they do not obstruct the driver's view.

Is chameleon tint legal on the front windshield in Ireland?

Chameleon tints are legal only if they meet the 70% VLT requirement. Anything darker can result in penalties or NCT failure.

Does standard window tint provide security benefits?

Standard tint does not offer anti-theft properties or shatter resistance. If security is a priority, specialized films are available.

What happens to window film in case of an accident or collision?

The film can help hold shattered glass together, reducing the risk of injuries from flying glass fragments.

Does window tint fade over time?

High-quality films maintain their appearance for many years, while cheaper options may fade, change color, or bubble due to UV exposure.

What does the warranty cover?

The warranty does not cover mechanical damage (e.g. from animals or objects) or improperly installed wind deflectors. It does, however, cover bubble formation (peanuting), edge peeling, and discoloration.

Why do I see a white, irregular dot matrix after installation?

After installation, you might notice an irregular white dot matrix in areas where the film does not adhere perfectly – an effect that evens out as the film dries.

How should I clean my tinted windows?

Use a soft microfiber cloth and a gentle cleaning solution. Avoid ammonia-based cleaners and wait at least 2-3 days after installation.

Why do I see marks or a hazy effect after installation?

A slight haze or streaks are normal immediately after installation due to moisture trapped under the film – they usually clear up within 2-3 days.

What about small contamination or dust under the film?

A small amount of dust is normal, but large concentrations may require film replacement. Proper surface preparation helps reduce the risk of contamination.

Car Wrapping

How long does a vinyl wrap last in Ireland’s climate?

In Ireland’s damp and variable climate, with proper maintenance, a high-quality vinyl wrap lasts from 5 to 10 years. UV-resistant films and regular cleaning help maintain the finish, especially in coastal areas.

Is wrapping a car a good alternative to painting?

Wrapping is a great option for temporary color changes and protecting your paint, but it does not replace permanent painting if you need an exact factory color match.

Can vinyl wrap match the exact colour of the rest of my car?

No – wrap manufacturers use their own shades, which may not match the original paint colors.

Can rough black plastic parts (e.g., van bumpers, mirrors) be wrapped?

Vinyl does not adhere well to rough surfaces – these parts should be pre-treated with a primer to improve adhesion.

How long does a wrap stay in good condition?

Typically, a wrap remains in good condition for 5 to 10 years, depending on the material and maintenance.

Does a vinyl wrap require special maintenance?

Yes, to extend the life of the wrap, hand washing is recommended (avoiding automatic car washes with harsh brushes) and using dedicated cleaning products, especially for matte or textured finishes.

What is Paint Protection Film (PPF)?

PPF is a transparent, self-healing protective film that safeguards your car’s paint from stone chips, scratches, debris, and UV exposure.

How long does PPF last?

High-quality PPF lasts between 5 to 10 years, depending on usage conditions and maintenance.

Can PPF be applied to any part of the car?

What happens if PPF gets scratched?

Most PPFs feature self-healing technology, which causes minor scratches to disappear when exposed to heat.

Can PPF be removed?

Yes, PPF is completely removable, but it is recommended to have it removed by a professional to avoid damaging the original paint.

How do I maintain my PPF?

You should hand wash your vehicle using pH-neutral shampoo and avoid abrasive sponges or brushes. Optionally, specialized sealants can be applied.

Can PPF be combined with ceramic coating?

Yes, applying ceramic coating over PPF adds hydrophobic properties, making cleaning easier while enhancing gloss and protection.

Will PPF turn yellow over time?

Modern, high-quality PPF films are UV resistant, which prevents yellowing.

Is PPF worth it?

If you want to protect your car’s paint and keep it in pristine condition, PPF is one of the best investments you can make.
